Water Storage Tips
FEMA recommends a minimum of 1 gallon per person per day — but 2 gallons per person is more realistic for drinking, food prep, and basic hygiene in a real emergency.
Rotate your water every 6–12 months if stored in food-grade containers. Commercial bottled water lasts 2 years sealed.
Treating tap water for storage: Add 8 drops of plain unscented liquid bleach per gallon. Double for cloudy water. Label the date.
55-gallon blue poly barrels are the best value for home storage. IBC totes are cheapest per gallon but require space.
Store in a cool, dark place. Heat and light degrade plastics and promote algae growth.
