SFG by Mel Bartholomew — divide your bed into 1-foot squares and assign one crop per square based on plant spacing needs.
Trellis vertical crops (cucumbers, peas, beans) on the north side so they don't shade shorter plants.
Rotate each season — don't plant the same family in the same square two years in a row to prevent disease buildup.
Tomatoes and zucchini are large plants — each takes a full 4 sq ft (2×2 area). Plan accordingly.
Use Mel's Mix (1/3 compost, 1/3 peat, 1/3 vermiculite) for best results — never native soil.
